THE GUAGMIRE
In the depth of despair,
Ignited with fire,
A battle fought daily trauma eked on an attire,
Echoes of pain grows older rising higher,
Gender based violence a world consumed by air.
Cries silenced, victims nursing wounds dire
Seeking justice they refuse to tire
Breaking chains of oppression, fueled by desire
To end the cycle and extinguish this rising fire
Let’s champion equality, hopes and dreams inspire
Inspire before we expire,
Amidst all life’s challenges I can’t retire.
Gender based violence a cruel reality
That robs women off their dignity
A threat to address with clarity
A dream full of disparity.
Gbv is spreading like an infection
That needs instant prescription
But devoid of medication
And all nations
Deserve protection
To the future generation.
It is a daunting specter its shadow cast,
Doesn’t discriminate from present to past,
All individuals the future we hold vast,
Let’s brave this battle steadfast.
Mindful warriors armed with compassions might,
Let’s shatter stigma, confront it with light,
Knowledge and empathy our armor so bright
Gbv must not conquer, we defy its blight.
Let’s hold hands, build bridges with care
Sharing knowledge, erasing despair
For a world where gbv isn’t met with stare
Sympathy and unity a hymn and prayer.
My fellow Ugandans heed this call,
Don’t let apathy and ignorance befall,
Educate, support, and uplift one and all.
Gbv we all triumph and rise
Empowering hearts eradicating lies
Through education and love we’ll realize
A bright future where hope never dies.
